Privacy Policy

The short version

LightWindow is a reference tool, not a data business. There are no accounts, no sign-ups and no personal profiles. The city or location you pick is remembered on your own device so the site opens where you left it. We use standard analytics to understand which pages are useful, and that is it.

Location data

When you choose a city or use the “use my location” option, the selected coordinates and timezone are stored in your browser (localStorage and a cookie that lasts up to 365 days) so pages can load with your place already selected. If you use GPS, your browser asks for permission first, and the coordinates are sent to our servers only to calculate sun and moon times for that spot. We do not store your coordinates on our servers, link them to you, or share them with anyone.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate usage - which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and how the site performs. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects device and usage information as described in Google’s privacy policy. We see this data only in aggregate and never use it to identify individual visitors. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

LightWindow may show advertising (such as Google AdSense) to keep the site free. Ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies is described in Google’s advertising policy, and you can manage personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. If you are in a region that requires consent for advertising cookies, you will be asked before any are set.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most web hosts, Vercel keeps short-lived technical logs (IP address, request URL, user agent) for security and reliability. These are not used to build visitor profiles.

What we never do

• Sell or rent any visitor data.
• Require an account or collect names, emails or passwords.
• Store your GPS coordinates on our servers.
• Track you across other websites.

Your choices

You can clear the saved location at any time by clearing this site’s cookies and site data in your browser. The site works fully without GPS - just pick a city from the list instead.
